Oak Burial Flag Display Case

Whenever a U.S. Military Servicemember or Veteran passes, an American Flag is draped over their casket. This flag is then folded and presented to the next of kin. This ceremony is a means for a nation to show it's gratitude for, as well as a reminder of, the Veteran’s dedication and service to their country. Such an important piece should be memorialized in a flag display case that is not only handcrafted here in America, but also built by U.S. Military Veterans, who understand the importance of that very flag. When purchase a LOA Flag Display Case, this is exactly what you are doing. You can be proud to display your Burial Flag in an American Made - Veteran Built™ heirloom piece, that you and your loved ones will cherish for generations.

This Burial Flag Display Case is handcrafted from real Oak hardwood. We do not use particle board with a fake wood colored veneer like you find with other, much cheaper, flag display cases. Those cases only last a few years, before being nicked and dinged, or worse... broken and chipped. We strictly use REAL hardwoods, sourced from American mills and sawyers across the country. These hardwoods will stand the test of time, ensuring that your Flag Display Case can be handed down generation to generation

Red Oak

American Red Oak (Latin name Quercus species, mainly Quercus rubra) is the dominant species in the U.S. hardwood forests – with distinctive grain, and wood that is not always red in color. The name comes from the leaf color in the fall. Red oak may be sold on the basis of ‘northern’, ‘southern’ and ‘Appalachian’.

Red oak trees grow only naturally and almost exclusively in North America, although planted elsewhere. They are widely distributed throughout most of the eastern United States in mixed hardwood forests. The trees are very tall. There are many sub-species, all within the red oak classification, which grow from north to south; some high in the mountains and others on low land giving rise to different characteristics. Thus there are significant variations in red oaks depending on location, in particular between the slower grown northern and faster grown southern trees. Red oaks are regarded as highly sustainable for both domestic and export consumption and, being the largest species group, are more abundant than the white oaks.

In general the sapwood of red oaks is light brown and the heartwood is often, but not always, pinkish to reddish brown. The color difference between the sapwood and heartwood is quite distinct. The wood of red oaks is generally straight-grained and coarse textured. The wood is figured with medullary rays – a feature of all true (Quercus) oaks – smaller in red oak than white oak. The wood is porous, and easily identified from the end grain, so not suitable for wine barrels.

American red oaks have very good overall strength properties relative to weight. The wood is hard and heavy with medium bending strength, stiffness and high crushing strength. It has excellent steam bending capability. Being hard, stable when dry and easy to finish and stain, it is ideal for furniture and flooring.

With a Janka Hardness Rating of 1290, it is a strong, durable hardwood, with beautiful grain texture and qualities. It has high resistance to abrasion and wear, lasting for years. It is a great choice when choosing your wood for your flag display case or shadow box.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the interior dimensions?

This flag display case holds the Burial/Interment Flag (5'x9.5') given at the funeral of a military veteran or first responder. The interior dimensions are 11 ³⁄₁₆"H X 22 ⅜"W X 2 ⅝"D. You can see a visual reference of the dimensions in the product photos above as well as under the section "Specs & Intel".

2. Are the hardwoods stained?

No. We believe in the natural beauty of each type of hardwood we use. That is why we don't color stain any of our products. All our products receive a clear lacquer finish and the color of the hardwood in our product images is that of its natural color.

3. How long does delivery usually take?

We offer free ground shipping to the contiguous United States. Your order is shipped right from our shop located in Helena, Montana and can take 1-7 days depending on where in the country it is going. For orders to Hawaii/Alaska, shipping takes typically 7-10 days. APO/FPO address vary greatly. We have seen orders delivered as quick as a few days, and some that have taken a month. We will provide you with a tracking number for you to stay up to date with your orders shipping and estimated delivery.

4. What if my item arrives damaged?

We try our best to package every item well, to survive the shipment, but on rare occasions, something happens during shipment, and the item arrives damaged. We are here to help! We insure all shipments for this exact reason. If your order arrives broken contact us right away so we can quickly move to fix or replace the item. Be sure to keep all packaging, as this will be required for any exchange or replacement of the damaged product.

5. Do you offer UV glass for your items?

At this time, we unfortunately do not; but we may be looking to add this option in the future, if we can make it a cost effective option for the customer.

6. The glass has a little bit of play to it. Is this normal?

Yes! This is actually by design. Wood is an organic material that expands and contracts in different climates, during different points of the year. We allow an 1/8" tolerance for this wood movement to prevent the wood from contracting so much that it breaks the glass.

7. Where are your products manufactured?

Every item is handcrafted in our wood shop, located in the beautiful Helena, Montana.
